The Plateaued

Working in your business and not on your business leaves no time to focus and figure everything out on your own.

You started your business to follow your passion and so far, you’ve done really well. You have offerings that are in demand and your customers love you. How fantastic is that!

Except when it’s not. Like when your numbers aren’t quite where you’d like them to be even though you’re still putting in long days filled with spinning all the plates and wearing all the hats. As you run a growing business, everything gets complex; you get busy and sometimes push off things you know are important.

If you could just stop the merry-go-round of the daily workload and hunker down in a snazzy hotel with primo room service for a month – then you could focus and get creative about your offerings, about expanding your customer base, and about the eleventy thousand ideas that have been on constant rotation in your head.

IT’S TIME TO GET THIS OVER-THINKING MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK

daydreaming at desk

Remember when you started your business, you were so clear about what you were doing. You knew what needed to get done and you did it. You started your day with purpose, you were on a mission and you had your eye on the prize. You built a business, you did that!  Your pre-teen self is standing up and applauding you so damn hard!

So things have levelled off lately in your business and you’re looking for a spike. This plateau happens to all small business owners, it’s simply a part of your evolution. It’s not because of a lack of ability, effort or willingness to figure things out.

To go from where you are today to where you want to be, you need different tools than when you started and an updated perspective and approach. Add to that a big scoop of passion with a side of resilience dusted with flexibility and focussed attention?! Next level, baby!

YOU’RE CLOSER TO YOUR DREAM BUSINESS THAN YOU THINK

No matter what your business is, no matter what you really do, be it shortbread cookies or cockle shells, you are primarily in sales and marketing, my friend.

It took me a while to figure that out. I certainly didn’t know that when I started my e-commerce business 9 years ago. After flailing around getting nowhere doing the lone wolf thing, I hired coaches, took courses, gave up most of my social life to a disturbing degree. I focussed on figuring it out, honing my skills as I shared with my fellow entrepreneurs along the way.

I am not going to promise you 6 figures in 6 weeks results as spouted by too many posing poolside gurus on Youtube. I can promise you a safe sounding board for honest feedback on your ideas, a partner to support you in the process of development and implementation, and guidance from an experienced, objective point of view.

I know this: if you have excellent offerings and customer service and are committed to connecting with more people whose lives you can make better by doing what you do, then your next level up is a whole lot closer than you think.

May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.
